Shaker Style Soffits

One of the aspects of our kitchen that I grew to dislike over our first few years in this house is the space over our kitchen cabinets.  By no means was that space a major issue--we bought the house perfectly happy with that look, but I'm just not one for displaying knick-knacks and whatnot, so the open area felt empty.


 Instead of watching the open space fill with dust, Mike and I decided to find a way to customize it.

Gift Wrap Station

If you've ever gotten lost in the beauteous organizational haven that is searching "craft room" on Pinterest, you've likely been hypnotized by one gift wrap station or another.

It's not just me, right?  Rolls of paper and ribbon on rods neatly hung among other supplies has a soothing effect on everyone, I'm sure.

With the reconfiguration that our craft room underwent recently, space for such an area opened up!  Yes, that made me a little giddy.

Crafting a Craft Room

There was a moment over this winter break when I was sitting on our craft room floor surrounded by sorted piles of sewing notions, fuse beads, and office supplies when Mike sent Michael in to deliver a grilled cheese sandwich.  I was in the zone, and he just knew that I would prefer not to go downstairs for lunch.

These weeks off of work have given me that rare luxury of time.  I could sit and stare like lunatic at the piles of supplies and furniture leftovers to envision the form and function that I want for the crafting space, not just what could work.
