$2 Tablet Charging Station

I decided to create a charging station for my kids' tablets because ever since the kids got their tablets for Christmas, our kitchen counter has been home to this:

On a quick trip to the dollar store, I bought a solution.  These baskets fit the bill by being deep and wide enough for a tablet and a pair of headphones, and they have holes from which the baskets can hang and through which the power cords can be thread.

On a small, mostly unused wall of the playroom that happens to be just above an electrical outlet...

I hung two Command hooks from our stash (a couple of nails or push pins would likely work as well) and hung the baskets from them.  Although I was able to squeeze the hooks through the basket slats, I chose to cut out one of the dividers to make an even bigger hole.  Might as well make baskets easier to remove and hang up again.  I was able to cut the plastic with regular scissors.

Looking at our tablet charging station head on, the cords are still a tad unsightly...

but thanks to the positioning beside the shelves, it looks pretty good from most angles.  We could always cover the cords the way we covered the one for the light on the wall to the right.   We'll also probably need a splitter so we can plug that light in at the same time.

For now I'm just wildly happy to have our kitchen counter cord free!
